One of the major draws to Santa Barbara is the Spanish architecture. The best example of this is Mission Santa Barbara. It sits on a hill overlooking the city and offers stunning panoramic views of the cityscape and the surrounding countryside. It’s the perfect place for snapping pictures and capturing the beauty of this area. Right downtown is another perfect example of the architecture that dominates in this city. The Presidio Santa Barbara was a former military installation and chapel that was built in 1782. If you are looking for a bird’s eye view of the city proper from a downtown vantage point, you will want to climb to the top of the open air tower of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. It was built in the Spanish-Moorish style and has the quintessential red tiled roof.
If you want to get out and experience the wildlife and the landscape of the area, be sure to visit the Los Padres National Forest. It is located just beyond the city, right next to the Santa Ynez Mountains. There are several secluded wilderness areas situated here that will have you communing with nature and getting your daily exercise in.
