William Bailey Travel Takes a Sicilian Wine Tour

Posted on 12.04.15

William Bailey Travel Takes a Sicilian Wine TourWine is a part of life and cultures around the world. In Italy, wine has been made and consumed for millennia. Syrahs, Rosso, Chardonnay and Marsala are made with care and skill using some of the finest grapes and other fruits from the region to excite even the most experienced palates. If you love wine, one bucket list destination you have to experience is the Italian region of Sicily. William Bailey Travel invites you to take a closer look at Sicily and its stunning wines.

Sicily has more vineyards than any other region in Italy. They’ve been a major wine producer for centuries, and while you might not find an array of options from Sicily at the store, you will find amazing quality. They have adopted the value of quality over quantity, and have really focused on the amazing flavors that they produce from the varietals.

Despite its small size, there are plenty of amazing wineries and vineyards to choose from including one of the newest called Planeta. The vineyard is run by a group of cousins whose family already owns five properties and has a wealth of knowledge to offer the up and comers. They have gained international recognition for their chardonnay. One of the unique wines they are bringing to the table though is their La Segreta. It is a wonderful blend of Nero d’Avola, an indigenous varietal, with merlot, Syrah, and a touch of cabernet franc. Visit one of their vineyards in Menfi and taste what these entrepreneurs are corking.

Another up and comer, only on the map since this side of the millennium is Estate Serramarrocco. The vineyard is located in Fontanelle in Trapani, Sicily. Many of their wines are already renowned. The most awarded thus far is named Serramarrocco, a wine blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. This is actually a Bordelaise style, a classic French tradition. Spend the afternoon in the wine tasting room to go from novice to aficionado.

Whether are already an experienced wine lover or new to the world of wine and wine tasting, you will not be disappointed with a trip to this amazing area in Italy. From these great new vineyards to more established and well-known vineyards such as Fattorie Azzolino, you are sure to find a flavor to tantalize your taste buds without having to search too far. Find out what you have been missing and be inspired in Italy on your vacation.
