Top Reasons to Visit New Mexico

Planning a Vacation in the States?

From magnificent desert landscapes to its deep gorges and canyons, New Mexico is a place that can easily enchant you. Here are a few reasons to plan a trip to this beautiful southwestern state.

1. Native American Communities

Each tribe is a separate, independent entity that speak their own language and hold their own unique traditions. One reservation, the Taos Pueblo, is the only community of its kind. Its 100 residents live in the way their ancestors did thousands of years ago. Also nearby is the Acoma reservation. Located just 50 miles outside of Albuquerque the tribe is known for its time-honored ceremonies and beautiful pottery that can be purchased at their visitor’s center.

2. Georgia O’Keeffe

O’Keefe spent a number of years in Santa Fe creating a large portion of her body of work. Her home, studio and museum are located here and continue to play host to more than half of the work she created in her lifetime. If you wish to follow in the footsteps that O’Keeffe traveled through her lifetime, after visiting her studio and museum, you can head to the mesa Pedernal, a subject of many of her paintings and the location where her ashes were scattered upon her death.

3. The Local Resorts and Spas

New Mexico is home to the only hot springs in the United States. The springs are located at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs where you can soak and also take a mud bath. There are also a number of nearby spas that offer massage services, aromatic oil treatments, body treatments that utilize desert flowers and plants to help guests rejuvenate and renew their spirit.

4. The annual Albuquerque Balloon Festival

Each fall pilots, crews, and spectators from around the world gather for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta/Festival. Known as the world’s largest hot air ballooning event the festival takes place over a nine-day period during the first full week of October. Hundreds of balloons fill the sky each morning at day break over the Sandia Mountains. Balloon glow and other events are held in the evenings. Here guests can walk among the tethered balloons and witness a mass launching at the end of the night.
