Passport Day 2013

Posted on 02.26.13

answersPassport Day in the USA is fast approaching for 2013. If you need a passport or need to renew, mark March 9th on your calendar.

On Saturday March 9th from 10 am to 3 pm throughout the U.S. at passport agencies, U.S. citizens can go and apply for their passport without an appointment. This year the focus is on family travel and for this reason, Passport Day is being celebrated on a Saturday to make it easier for parents and children to get their passports without having to miss school or work. Those who bring their children to any of the 25 agencies and other areas will find activities for the children, another benefit to taking advantage of Passport Day 2013.

All About Passports

Passports are your ticket in and out of other countries around the globe. There are three distinct types of “passports” for U.S. citizens today which include:

The standard and traditional Passport book, the smaller and less expensive Passport Card and the Enhanced Licenses.

If you plan on traveling outside of the U.S. and outside of the countries of Canada or Mexico, you will be required to have the full passport book which will cost from $165 to $115 depending on your age and whether you are getting it for the first time or renewing. If you will be taking a cruise or driving to destinations in Canada or Mexico, you will be able to choose from a passport card or an Enhanced license. Passport cards will allow you access to these limited destinations for less than $60, but is restricted to only travel to those destinations and only by land or sea. All air travel requires a passport book. An enhanced license is available in border states including Michigan, New York and other border states and will allow ground travel to Canada and Mexico only.
