Those of us monitoring travel and tourism this year were both annoyed and overjoyed at the continued growth in travel in our slowly rebounding economy and the Christmas holiday season appears to be offering the same appearance. An expected 93.3 million Americans are expected to be traveling this holiday season up an additional 1.6% from last year.
What this means for all of us is that the economy is still on the rise, Americans feel the desire and comfort to travel and that we need to plan ahead for travel during the season to avoid issues with overbooked flights, accommodations and crowded highways. AAA has also forecasted that overall, gas prices will be down through the holiday, that most will be traveling by car but that air travel is also up from last year.
Other statistics offered for the holiday from AAA include:
- An expected 5.6 million to travel by air
- Highest number of holiday travelers in the last 6 years
- Spending is expected to increase
- The cost of hotels and rentals expected to be up
- The number of miles traveled is expected to be up
The Christmas holiday season is always a popular time for travel around the world as friends and families gather together to celebrate the holiday and ring in the new year.
This years top holiday destinations include:
