Fireworks in Illinois

With the fourth of July just around the corner, it is time to put together a list of the best places to catch top fireworks displays. If you are traveling through Illinois on the fourth, these are the best spots to kick back and catch a spectacular patriotic celebration.

1. Navy Pier: Chicago

Chicago’s historic Navy Pier is the perfect destination for an amazing fireworks display. Not only do the official Chicago Fourth of July fireworks come from the pier, but visitors can also enjoy the bi-weekly Aon Summer Fireworks Show that occurs each Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer. This beautiful display can be viewed from the downtown shoreline or aboard one of the evening cruises on Lake Michigan.

2. Great Lakes Naval Station 4th of July Celebration

This free two-day event is open to the general public. The celebration features live music, movies, a Kid Zone, carnival rides, and two nights of fireworks. In addition, there is a 5K race, a basketball game, an Underwater Robotics Education Activity display and a marketplace to purchase all sorts of knick knacks and handmade items.

3. Winnetka Fourth Fest Fireworks: Winnetka

Winnetka knows how to throw a Fourth of July celebration. Their annual event kicks off with a parade early in the day that leads friends, neighbors and guests to the Events on the Green celebration where families compete in races and for bragging rights. Later in the evening, families are invited to a picnic and to enjoy music and activities for kids while waiting for the big fireworks display to begin at dusk. This year’s festivities include face painters, balloonists, a bounce house, a giant slide and many other fun activities for the kids.

4. Pottawatomie Park: St. Charles

Sponsored by the local Park District, this July 4th Celebration in St. Charles is a time for friends and family to get together to celebrate. Each year the park hosts the perfect spot for family picnics, leisure, and entertainment. Pottawatomie Park offers affordable rates for all-day swimming, golf, mini-golf and also offers a picnic-style concessions menu. Starting at 6pm, families can enjoy live music from Fox Valley’s favorite rock-n-roll band – Red Woody, and when dusk approaches families will be sure to enjoy the largest and most industrious fireworks display in Fox Valley.
