Bill Bailey Travels the Great River RoadWe have talked in the past about the “Mother Road” and other amazing routes in the state of Illinois however, no conversation is complete without mentioning the Great River Road. Making its way 2069 miles along the Mississippi River through the states of Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin, this is one road which has earned its name. Many who sight see along the Great River Road stop along the way to enjoy the river itself. Whether you choose to rent a boat for the afternoon or choose to find one of the many paddleboats or steamships which provide a unique look into the history of the Mississippi, you will have no trouble finding exactly what you are looking for.

Off the river, many visitors choose to explore on foot. Along the way, many state and national areas line the Great River Road providing mile after mile of natural scenic beauty. Natural areas like Tapley Woods, state parks like Morrison-Rockwood and Delabar in addition to historic sites such as Black Hawk State Historic Site, are just a few of the many popular recreational areas available to visitors for a few hours or even a few days.
