Bill Bailey Travel Reviews Carmel

Bill Bailey Travel Reviews Carmel Finding destinations which offer fun things to do and pleasant accommodations for both you and your pet can be difficult however, one destination which is known as a paradise for dog lovers it the seaside town of Carmel.

Carmel-by-the-Sea was founded in California in 1902. Sometimes simply referred to as Carmel, this town is located in Monterey County on the Monterey Peninsula along the rugged coast of the Pacific Ocean.  The city is just over 100 miles from San Francisco. A quaint destination, Carmel has a population of just over 3,500 that call it home but is well known for its beautiful natural scenery and history that is rich in artistic endeavors.

Carmel is well known for being extremely dog friendly, and is the perfect place for your favorite pooch to join you on holiday. The majority of hotels, retail establishments and even restaurants allow man and woman’s best friend. The restaurants that allow dogs even offer water and some of them have a special menu for them. The retail establishments are known for having water and treat bowls located on their store fronts. The only place that dogs are not allowed in Carmel is as Devendorf Park. Dogs must always be leashed throughout the city with the exception of Carmel City Beach. Although you should never leave your dog unattended in a warm climate, the police department takes this offense extremely seriously and will open your car if you neglected to provide the animal adequate ventilation and water. They will remove the dog and the owner will be issued a citation.

Another thing that the quirky town is known for is several very unusual laws. One of which is the prohibition of wearing high heeled shoes without a permit. This law has often been mistaken as an urban myth, but is quite true. Individuals are banned from wearing shoes that have a heel of more than 2 inches and a base of less than one square inch unless you have obtained a permit. The origin of this law in the 1920’s was to prevent lawsuits that had arisen from the irregular pavement throughout the city.

Known for its unique appeal as well as its wonderful ability to embrace all visitors, even those of the four-legged variety, Carmel is a wonderful California coastal town and a great place to spend some time anytime of the year.
