Bozeman is located in the southwestern part of Montana. The Bozeman Trail a new northern trail off the original Oregon Trail was opened in 1863. The opening of the new trail led to mining in the surrounding area and the birth of what was to be one of the biggest cities in the state. The city of Bozeman has had a healthy growth over the years and is constantly attracting new residents due to the quality of life that is experienced here. Bozeman is surrounded by mountain ranges. The Bridger Mountains are located to the north-northeast of the city; the Tobacco Root Mountains are located to the west south-west of the city. The Big Belt Mountains and the Horseshoe Hills are located to the northwest of the city. The Hyalite Peaks, part of the Gallatin Mountain Range are to the south and the Spanish Peaks, part of the Madison Range are located to the south southwest of the city. Cozy up to a local to get the down low on the best off the beaten path to cast. A great place for a scenic drive is the Going to the Sun Road. It is a 52 mile drive through the Glacier National Park. The drive will take you through the Glacier National Park and the Logan Pass. The pass was once used as a pass through for travelers that needed to cross the mountains on their way further west. Bowman Lake is also located in the Glacier National Park. It is located to the west of the Livingston Range. Activities at the lake include camping fishing and hiking. Another amazing hiking trail in Glacier National Park is the Grinnell Glacier hike. This is a geological formation that offers over 300 acres of awe inspiring views and hiking trails.
